Rosie O'Donnell
With successful forays in stand-up comedy, movies, television and theater, Rosie O'Donnell is one of the most versatile performers in show business. Her comedy career began at the age of 20 and she won five Star Search comedy competitions. She gained national exposure in the 1992 movie, "A League of Their Own."
She started "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" in 1995 as an antidote to the trashy daytime talk shows on television at the time. Dubbed by Newsweek as the "Queen of Nice," O'Donnell chatted with celebrities on her show but also succeeded in making her viewers feel they can relate to her.
Rosie sometimes used her show as a forum for current issues, such as adoption, breast cancer awareness and gun control. She also features kids and teenagers who have overcome adversity to succeed in school.
- For All Kids Foundation
O'Donnell established this foundation, which gives grants to support
the social and intellectual development of underserved kids. The foundation has awarded $10.2
million since 1997, much of it to established child care programs. eBay hosts a
charity auction to benefit the foundation with
the sales of celebrity items.
